A talented sculptor, designer, composer, and performer, artist Tom Brady's work is the shirt sleeve upon which human emotions are worn. Part philosopher, part acrobat, Brady uses the full gamut of his abilities to choreograph intricate performance-pieces that pay special attention to the minutest details of a show from lighting design and musical accompaniment to audience perspective. Through silent movement, Brady poses questions that invite each spectator to fabricate their own meaningful answer.
Brady's performance-opera, 3Row Poles to Enlightenment asks questions about human nature by exploring the interconnections between relationships. 3Row Poles serves as a koan; a riddle; a paradoxical statement intended to provide a deeper understanding of the struggle between inner good and evil. The piece introduces two performers (Brady and Monica Newsam) to predetermined systems-physical, mathematical, and psychological-through which they must navigate as they traverse the stage space; a metaphor for life's path. The proscenium, itself a work of art, consists of three roles of 6 poles upon which the performers dance with the concentration and determination of a yogin. The architecture of the performance, independent of a narrative armature, demands the audience find its own inner spiritual interpretation of the interaction unfolding on stage. Soprano Karen Schuster's live accompaniment and brilliant timbre add a haunting effect during the closing moments of 3Row Poles.
